Design for Disability Access.
FAQ's:
Q. Is it expensive?
A. Yes and No. Compared to designs that do
not take accessibility
into account, it is.
It is, however, less expensive to create a website for accessibility,
than it
is to make an
existing inaccessible website accessible.
The added cost can be measured in some extra dollars per page.
Q. What if I just wanted a "text
only" equivalent site? Surely that would
be cheaper than
recreating my existing website to be accessible, wouldn't it?
A. Maybe, maybe not. A good many things
have to be taken into
consideration and applied in the design when
you design a fully accessible website.
Q. Why bother?
A. The upside to it is that you will have
increased visitors to the site.
And, you will know that you did the right thing.
In Canada approximately 1 in 10 people live with some form of disability.
Granted not all disabilities
limit the Internet experience. Two bad legs might not, but two bad hands, eyes
or ears will.
